From Microsoft Planner to Riwaiyat: keeping jewellery conversations personal

Priya Singh left UX design at Microsoft to build a Bengaluru jewellery brand around tribal and vintage pieces. CampaignHQ sits next to Shopify so follow-ups don’t depend on someone remembering to send them.

The leap

From Microsoft Planner to a jewellery brand with a past

Priya Singh is Founder & CEO of Riwaiyat, a jewellery brand based in Bengaluru. Before going full-time on the brand, she was a UX designer at Microsoft, on the Microsoft Planner team.

Riwaiyat launched in January 2025. The name comes from riwayat: tradition, customs and stories passed down through generations. That is close to what the brand represents: statement jewellery inspired by tribal and traditional cultures, with a strong focus on Afghan and Central Asian pieces. Many are vintage, refurbished or sourced in very limited quantities, so they carry imperfections, patina and details that make them unique.

The brand is for people who don’t want jewellery that looks like everyone else’s. Customers are in India and internationally. For Priya, the story of a piece (the tribe, motif, material and technique) is as important as the piece itself.

I’ve always been fascinated by jewellery that feels like it has lived a life before reaching you: pieces shaped by communities, traditions and craftsmanship rather than trends.

The everyday

When follow-up can’t live in someone’s head

Riwaiyat sells through Shopify. Before CampaignHQ, a lot of customer communication needed manual attention: keep track of conversations, follow up one by one, and make sure potential orders weren’t getting lost between browsing, checkout and payment.

COD added another layer. An order being placed does not necessarily mean the order is confirmed. Abandoned checkouts were a missed opportunity too: customers interested enough to reach checkout, but not practical to chase by hand as volumes grew.

The biggest challenge was scale. A growing brand is managing products, inventory, content, marketing, fulfilment and support at the same time. Remembering which customer needs a follow-up becomes difficult very quickly. Sometimes the customer doesn’t need convincing. They got distracted or had a question. Reach them at the right time, and that conversation can turn into an order.

Priya connected CampaignHQ to the Shopify store about ten months ago, to make communication and follow-ups more systematic. WhatsApp matters because it is a natural channel for Indian customers. The team uses it for abandoned-checkout and order-related journeys, email, COD confirmation and campaigns, and to see whether those interactions contribute to sales, not only whether messages were delivered.

How it works

The journeys she actually runs

CampaignHQ sits next to Shopify. Automation handles the repetitive follow-ups. Priya’s team still answers the questions that need a person.

COD confirmation

  • WhatsApp
  1. A customer places a cash-on-delivery order

On Shopify that is not the same as a confirmed order. Someone still has to close the loop before the parcel goes out.

  2. CampaignHQ follows up on WhatsApp

COD confirmation is one of the journeys Riwaiyat runs so the team is not chasing every order by hand.

  3. Priya’s team stays available for the piece itself

Jewellery with history attracts questions. Automation starts the thread; a person still answers what the piece is and where it comes from.

Shopify COD flows

Abandoned checkout

  • WhatsApp
  1. Someone reaches checkout and leaves

They were interested enough to start. Following up with every one of them manually was not practical.

  2. A journey meets them on WhatsApp or email

Riwaiyat uses CampaignHQ for abandoned-checkout follow-ups so a distracted shopper can still be reached at the right time.

  3. She can see whether the conversation led to a sale

Visibility into revenue generated or recovered matters more than message-delivery counts alone.

WhatsApp, email and campaigns

  • WhatsApp
  1. WhatsApp for Indian customers

It is the natural channel for order-related conversations and timely follow-ups.

  2. Email and campaigns for the brand story

Collections, craft and the history behind a piece need more room than a confirmation ping. Email and campaigns carry that.

What changed

Abandoned checkouts and COD confirmations now run on WhatsApp and email. Priya’s team keeps the conversations that need a person.

Repetitive checkout and COD chasing the team no longer does.

Commercial

Before

Abandoned checkouts and COD orders were hard to connect back to completed sales.

After

Checkout recovery and COD confirmation now show up as recovered orders and attributed revenue, not just messages sent.

Operational

Before

Follow-ups depended on someone remembering which customer still needed a reply.

After

Two journeys run continuously on WhatsApp and email. The team spends that time on questions, sourcing, products and the brand.

For me, the value is simple: fewer potential customers slipping through the cracks, less repetitive work for the team, and more time to focus on building Riwaiyat.

The human part stays

Riwaiyat jewellery often has history, unusual details and stories behind it, so customers naturally have questions. Those conversations still need a person. Priya does not want automation to replace that relationship. She wants it to handle the repetitive parts so the team has more time for meaningful ones.

As the brand grows, she does not want growth to mean adding more and more manual follow-ups behind every order. CampaignHQ automates parts of that process while the brand stays personal.
